What do you people on the forum think is a good price to pay for a Z3 hard top complete with fixing kit, cover & stand ? or complete with fixing kit and ceiling/roof hanger hoist ? or just the fixing kit ?

Look forward to reading your thoughts

Oooh, that's a difficult question as they so rarely come up as one bundle these days. The covers and stands are pretty easy to get hold of, the hard tops come up reasonably often - but it's the fitting kit that is causing the big problem these days.

My advice is to assume a budget of around £1k and if you can get the lot for less, then good on you! But, if you see a fitting kit for sale - buy it before someone else does ;)

Hi Gaz
I know of one hard top complete with fitting kit stand & cover £850 and one top with fitting kit and hanging hoist £650
both black but not sure if I would rather have a black one ?

Problem is hanging on hoping to find one in the colour you are looking for.

You may have to factor in the costs of a respray, or roll around with the black top which in my personal opinion looks pretty good! After all your canvas roof is black and that doesn't look out of place.

I bought my first for £250 plus £125 delivery and lucked out on a 6 min old auction for a fitting kit less the two front bolts for £99 and £25 delivery I think. My second came with a fitting kit for £600 and @bertiejaffa delivered it for me for £30. Grab a fitting kit as Gaz says they go for crazy money and combined with a top can save you big money. There is an aftermarket install kit on ebayUK @ £250 but don't know of anyone that's used one. Good luck!! JIM

i sold my fixing kit for £450, i sold it at the start of autumn last year (a deliberately timed sale, i would suggest waiting till spring it may be cheaper). i didnt have a hard top so couldn't see the point in keeping them, they were on the car when i brought it and the two front screws were still in the holes at the front top of windscreen. still got the wiring in the car for the heated rear screen (don't forget to factor in this part too)

to be fair the fixing brackets didn't look too difficult to copy and the bolts are cheap from bmw.

I have the "aftermarket" fitting kit with my hard top and it works just fine. My hard top and fitting kit cost me £600. The bolts in my kit are just standard allen head bolts.

ahh so there are copy's, i did consider doing this myself after i removed mine.

There was a guy on eBay, up in Scotland who advertised hardtop with after market fitting kit and top painted in any colour including a nights stay in a B&B service for about £900. I don't know if he's still on there though.
Tony.

Your correct @t-tony but I haven't noticed his ad on eBay for a while now! Seemed like a pretty good escape for a few days away and get a HT in the process. And I think the drive through Scotland would be just awesome!!

The overall deal seemed too good to be true. Maybe it was .....................

Tony.

If I recall he only did certain colours so maybe that was the problem! He didn't offer a very wide range which surprised me with the number of colours Zeds were available in! JIM
