Ok, does anyone know of a good supplier of the zip in rear window for my silver Z3.

I ordered on from ADM in Germany, good quality it was not. The overall size was completely wrong, thevresponse was my original window must have stretched. Funny enough a temporary window fits really well but does not have the plastic trim to push the roof under to make a nice seal.

I gave this week contacted three via web sites and two on telephone numbers from the web sites. To date, not one response. Seems they would rather sell a complete roof than just a zip in window. The roof on this zed is fine for many years yet, so I am just after the zip in window.

Pointers / help please.

The German company has given me a full refund too as it was not fir for purpose.

You could try these guys

120 quid o_O Couple of hundred more and you have got a new roof & window.

As long as mine doesn't split and let in water I'm not bothered that I can't see out of it. I'm used to driving a van that I can't use a rear view mirror in.

As HT says, for around £300-350 you can have a brand new roof, which is the way I'd go

I was the same, wind deflector was on the car all the time, hardtop on or soft top up, worked well against head light glare at night.
I drove using my wing mirrors.

@Low Rider Yes I have tried both of those ..

@hard top I would be happy to pay up to that figure. The roof is fine and its just the rear window that needs a replacement. I will keep looking and yes a new roof might be the way to head after all the other bits are done but it would be such a waste of a very good condition BMW roof.

Give this guy a call.

He's the bloke from softtops.org.uk, I think.

And you'll have a hood with a sewn in window as no one in Europe or NA does a zip in. At least I wasn't able to get one anywhere. I gave an ADM window to @BMBabe for her birthday and I don't think she had any problems getting it into Sunny! Good luck! JIM

Thanks Jim. It was a bit smaller compared to the existing and the temp we replaced the cracked one with. @Lee and @GazHyde will confirm, it was way too small.

I think I will be going to a main dealer and getting a original OEM part as recommended by @mwpe Mike.

325i E30 Plastic Rear Window

BMW Z3, M-Roadster Convertible Clear Plastic Rear Window

Replacement Rear Zip-In Window for BMW Z3 Convertibles. This is a new BMW window built by me from all new components. Made in USA.

An Z3 window is a zip-in window with black canvas trim on the outside edge that you tuck your top into. We have made hundreds of BMW Convertible windows.

The plastic used is DOT approved, higher quality and longer lasting than OEM BMW plastic. The OEM plastic can be scratched with your fingernail. This plastic won't easily be scratched with your fingernail and is more flexible, meaning that it should be more resistant to cracking. My trim will not deteriorate like BMW's trim will, either.

These windows come with a 1 year replacement warranty.

A lot of people ask if they can replace the window themselves. The old window unzips and the new window zips in. I supply the zipper slider necessary to do the operation (zipping and unzipping). You will need an assistant, and it should take 1-2 hours. It has been done in as little as 15 minutes.

Note: The BMW Z3 Convertible started in 1996.

$85 + $13 S/H
Credit Cards and Postal Money Orders accepted.

A slightly darker tinted plastic is also available for $9 more. The optional, darker, tinted plastic may or may not be DOT approved where you are, but if you are looking for a "Limo Tint", this is not it.

I went for o.e.m when.i replaced mine Paul as advised by a local trimmer that fitted it. He said he'd had some battles with aftermarket ones not fitting and the zips not lining up correctly. Not the cheapest option I know but at least you know it will fit properly and last.

Will be interested in hearing how it compares in size. I wasn't doubting what you said but rather wondering how they sell so many that do fit. Maybe a mistake at their factory?? Would be a shame to take off a good hood indeed! GL hope it works out! JIM

Thanks Frankie, I was looking two years ago and couldn't find any. New top has a sewn in but I'm sure the links you provided will help someone out. Turned out the stitching on the outer part was rotten and the top was due for a switch and I wanted a different colour anyhow! Bought one on eBay for $170 in tan like yours but ultimately want dark green!!
