Hi all,

Long time reader and user of this forum and sure I had an account in the past but can't seem to find it.

Anyway I am rubbish with computers, but not so bad at car DIY.

I have a 99 Z3M in Cosmos Black which I have done the following on if anyone is interested since I have had it (About 18 months now)

Seat Rock Fix.
Customer Wind Stop made and fitted to AC Rollover hoops.
VANOS Rebuilt.
Viscous deleted.
Had all bushings in rear subframe replaced and fitted AC subframe whip reducer sleeves.
New Koni adjustable rear shocks
E46 Fast steering rack fitted

There is probably more that I have done, but i cant remember it all now.

Next on the to do list is
AC Pump replacement with SAP delete
Sill removal and rust protection/ possible respray
Have a look at the dreaded rear boot welds and possibly do some sort of fix/ preventative maintenance/ fit a dual eared diff somehow.

Anyway, attached is a pic of the car. Thank you all for such a great forum.

Hi and welcome from London, nice looking car the boot welds are a worry on the bigger engined cars. Where are you based ?

Hello, thank you.

They are indeed a worry, I know there are kits out there available such as Randy Forbes kit etc, its just saving up to get one fitted :(

At present I have checked the welds in the boot and the diff ear under the car and all seems ok as to what to look for, my car doesn't seem to of ever had too much abuse (17 stamps at bmw for 78k) so it seems to have faired ok, but obviously as I am going through the car trying to make everything perfect, it is something that has to be on the list eventually.

I am based in the south west near Taunton.

Cheers

Well you're not too far from me, if ever you need a ramp, tools and some help on a saturday feel free to make contact and come up, alway happy to assist :thumbsup:

@Nodzed Yes thank you for linking that thread, I did read that thread before I did it, and for me at the moment it seems to be working perfectly, the car has had new stat and waterpump also, forgot to mention that bit haha and it always runs either bang on in the middle or slightly lower than in the middle if im flying down the motorway. Before it used to run cold a lot so suspect the viscous slightly seized or not working as well as it could. But yes thank you for pointing your thread out, I do monitor the temp in the car especially on hot days and traffic which I seem to keep finding in it

Which leads me onto remembering another job I need to do that i have just reminded myself of, fit my braided clutch hose... Ah well zed life...

That is really kind of you thank you very much. I'm just seeing what is out there and available to fix it at the moment. I know there is Randy Forbes kit and also I have found a member of this forum who was also a member of another forum with a very similar name (not sure if I'm supposed to send links) from South Africa who makes a similar kit at a lower price, so really just trying to work out how painful the pain is going to be ;)

The Randy Forbes kit is cheap enough (import tax is bit of a bugger though) its the fitting cost thats the issue, I have a mate that seems to think he can fit it now he has seen the full fitting instructions, but it isnt an easy job

Yeah true, the kit isn't too bad its just the fitting. Hence I'm beginning to wonder how much I can/ can't do myself although that may all end in tears =))

Also additionally if you are doing dual ear rear diff it needs a different exhaust which is even more money :banghead:

Hence why it never gets very high up the list

As a family we are nearly as bad as you with the zeds haha, my mum has a mint 3.0 estoril blue, one of the last of them.

And my brother has a z4m in interlagos with CSLs
