I have ‘Phone’ displayed after switching back to original CD player . Also have a bunch of wires behind that don’t connect to anything , including a lose earth with a clip on the end…. Very puzzling as there’s no other connection required at rear.
Searching for pics or videos is endless!

Although ground or earth is usually provided by a dedicated wire in the factory harness it can also be had through the antenna cables shield. This is not to say that a proper ground should not be connected, only that most radios also acquire ground/earth through the antenna shield. This is why your radio is still functional.
Professional installers that are working on large audio systems may play with the grounds to solve noise problems, this is however not usually necessary with a factory or aftermarket radio only situation.

I'm very sure that this is no earth/ground cable, they are always brown. That's either something else or it belongs to some aftermarket stuff.
