I'll be removing the engine from my '99 Z3 next week if all goes to plan, in order to replace it with an electric motor. I need to keep the transmission, clutch and flywheel but the rest is going spare. Happy to sell it all as a unit or break if there is demand.

Probably going to throw it up on eBay but thought I'd post here first if any UK and particularly Northwest/Greater Manchester peeps need relevant parts.

It's the 1.9l unit - M43 I guess? 174,000 miles on the clock but runs (mostly) fine. Can share a video of it running. I say 'mostly' because there's a vacuum leak and a split in the air intake hose, and I think the secondary air pump is borked as well. But everything else seems good.

Full list of what's on offer when I get it all stripped and confirm which parts I don't need, but you can assume everything that goes with a combustion engine will be going, including the exhaust (no holes that I can hear), alternator, starter, etc.

Not priced it up yet but if there are parts you want/need then give me a shout and we can work something out.

Without an engine to power the PAS pump you'll struggle to steer it. I've got a 1 Series electric rack that I keep falling over.

Not much. I'll swap it (plus a few $$) for an M44 if you get stuck with it. There's no rush tbh.

What I can do is dig out out again and compare it with a Z3 rack, mainly the distance between mounting points. Modifying the crossmember wouldn't be hard. The rack has done about 40k from a 2009 116i.

Here is a Z3 rack next to an electric rack. The distance between the original rack mounting holes is 234 mm, on the electric rack it's 302 mm so you'd need to cut the mounting lugs off the crossmember and refit them.
